OUR STORY
According to the publication by New Vision on 29th May 2023, Uganda is witnessing an increase in soft drinks and mineral water packed in plastic bottles of various sizes.
This increase is unfortunately Causing the challenge of increased plastic pollution, however, the beverage companies, both international and local do not have a formal system to avert the problem of plastic and polythene pollution. With no formal waste management system in Uganda, the majority of plastic waste is being burnt or buried in unsafe landfills, which puts both the environment and people’s health at risk.
Like the lack of waste management systems in Uganda, there is also a shortage of environmentally accommodative construction products in the market thus as Golden Peafowl we take the responsibility to address this challenge and offer unique products that are Environmentally friendly, like collection, empowerment and sensitization of communities about the danger of plastics on the ecosystem as well as the establishment of plastic collection centres within various locations in the communities.
Our agents gather the plastics and deliver them to our processing facility for cash. The plastics are then sorted according to type and crushed into smaller particles that are later mixed with a proportional quantity of sand and cement, moulded and used to make eco-friendly construction products.
This allows us to gather and recycle numerous tonnes of plastics and produce affordable construction materials in Uganda. The model will also create several jobs for currently unemployed youths and women. We pay for the plastic delivered to us thus creating reasonable income for the members of the community.
Our solution will also reduce the current unemployment rates in the country where three-quarters of the population, mainly aged 18-35, live in abject poverty. Our products will help solve the current housing gaps in Uganda as we shall produce and market affordable construction materials as compared to the current hard-to-afford construction materials in the market. We shall specifically produce bricks, pavers, and Eco tiles made out of a mix of recycled plastic and sand. The Pavers shall be multipurpose including flooring as well as road pavements.
It is our consideration to work closely with the community to plant trees monthly through a monthly tree planting campaign as part of our Carbon Neutral Scheme.
We plan to plant at least 100 trees monthly through our corporate social responsibility campaign.
Our Mission
“To provide ever-green, environmentally friendly, sustainable solutions to Uganda in a manner that uplifts their lives.”
Vision
To be Africa’s leading producer of eco-friendly products.
Our Secondary Mission
To conserve resources, reduce emissions, and prevent pollution from plastics
Why We Recycle.
Every year, enough plastic is discarded to circle the globe four times. Only 8% of the roughly 3,000,000 tons of garbage generated in Uganda each year is recycled. The remainder ends up polluting the environment. Non-biodegradable garbage, such as plastics and glass, aggravates the situation because they do not decompose.
Recycling allows us to keep our environment clean by transforming garbage into new valuable goods, minimizing air and water pollution. We are convinced that eco-friendly building supplies created from waste materials such as recycled glass and plastic are a viable option for cost-effective and “green” house construction.
